New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially closed the registration process for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) February 2026. According to official figures, more than 25.3 lakh candidates have successfully applied for the examination, making it one of the highest-registered CTET sessions in recent years.
The online application window was open from 27 November to 18 December 2025. CBSE reported a heavy rush of applications in the final days, with lakhs of candidates completing their registrations close to the deadline.

Rising Participation Trend
The large number of applicants reflects the growing interest in government teaching careers across the country. Compared to previous CTET sessions, the February 2026 exam has recorded a significant increase in applications, indicating strong competition among aspirants.
About CTET
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test is a national-level eligibility examination conducted by CBSE for candidates aspiring to become teachers in Classes I to VIII.
- Paper I is conducted for candidates aiming to teach Classes I to V.
- Paper II is meant for candidates aspiring to teach Classes VI to VIII.
Candidates can appear for either paper or both, depending on their eligibility and teaching goals.
Exam Date and Pattern
The CTET February 2026 examination is scheduled to be held on 8 February 2026. Each paper will consist of 150 multiple-choice questions, to be attempted in 2 hours and 30 minutes. There is no negative marking, which allows candidates to attempt all questions without penalty.
