PhD Quality in India: Promises Made, Problems Persist

“UGC will debar universities violating PhD quality standards” — a bold statement made by former UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar.

Fast forward to today — many of the concerns he raised still ring true.

 PhD quality? Still under question.

⭐ Faculty shortages? Still unresolved in many state universities.

⭐ Research environment? Struggling without adequate support.

⭐ While leadership may have changed, the challenges in Indian academia remain largely the same. The question is — how much has actually moved since then?

If we truly care about research integrity and global relevance, we can’t afford to let these issues stagnate.
