The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently come under scrutiny after its exam schedule for Classes X and XII revealed back-to-back test days — leaving many students worried about insufficient preparation time.

  • For example, Class X students have Malayalam on Feb 5, followed by Social Studies on Feb 6 — just one day in between.
  • A similar tight schedule is present in the Class XII timetable as well.

    In Kerala, Malayalam is a popular second language subject. Many students in the state opt for it over other language options like Hindi (Course B), Arabic, French, or German.
    The lack of a buffer day between Malayalam and Social Studies has been flagged as particularly unfair by regional school associations.

The CBSE has responded by acknowledging the concerns and has promised to review and revise the timetable if needed.

  • The Council of CBSE Schools, Kerala, has formally communicated practical issues faced by students, parents, and schools to CBSE’s Controller of Examinations.
  • The Kochi Metro Sahodaya, representing 65 schools in Kerala, also wrote to the controller, pointing out that the tight scheduling between two major papers could lead to undue stress and poorer performance.
